Vol. 195 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Land Purchases.

22.

asked the Minister for Lands (a) the total acreage of land in County Limerick purchased since 1945 by non-nationals, (b) the number of these non-nationals who have become Irish citizens since purchasing this land, and (c) the total additional acreage purchased by these non-nationals since becoming Irish citizens.

As regards (a), the records kept are for the period from 1st August, 1961. Since that date, particulars of the relevant transactions are being recorded by the Land Commission under the procedure authorised by Sections 33, 34 and 35 of the Finance Act, 1961. In Limerick, since 1st August, 1961, the total area so recorded as having been purchased by non-nationals and on which the 25 per cent. rate of stamp duty has been paid is 4 acres. In addition, 45 acres were acquired in the county for the purpose of an industry other than agriculture and 17 acres were acquired for other purposes but exempted from duty under the relevant exemption provisions of the Finance Act, 1961.

The information requested at (b) and (c) is not available in my Department.
