Vol. 195 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Forestry Lands.

24.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is intended to acquire portion of the lands of Maulnahorna, County Cork for afforestation purposes; and, if so, what progress has been made towards that end.

The Forestry Division of my Department has inspected a commonage area of 681 acres in the townland of Maulnahorna, County Cork, part of which has been offered for forestry purposes by the nine share-holders. In addition four of the share-holders have offered parts of their parent holdings totalling 274 acres and these areas as well as two other areas totalling 37 acres offered in the townland, have also been inspected.

In all but one of these cases, action towards acquisition is dependent on the successful conclusion of proceedings for the acquisition of part of the commonage. The exception is an area of 42 acres for which it is hoped to make an offer in the near future. In the remaining cases, further investigations regarding grazing rights affecting the commonage are necessary before a definite decision on acquisition can be reached.
