asked the Minister for Education if, further to a reply of 10th May regarding the recommendations of the Council of Education, he will state at what date the Council's Report will be circulated to the various educational bodies mentioned by him.

The Report is in process of being circulated to the bodies concerned.

29.

asked the Minister for Education, further to a reply of 10th May with regard to the recommendations of the Council of Education in which he stated that the Report of the Council would be circulated to the various educational bodies for their observations before any action on any of the Council's recommendations would be taken, whether it is a fact that interested educational bodies had ample opportunity to submit evidence on the matters covered in the Council's Report over a period of approximately five years; whether any record has been kept by his Department of the opinions expressed by these bodies during the period while the report was being prepared; and, if so, if he will state the reasons why he considers it necessary to go through the timeconsuming procedure of re-consulting these bodies before coming to any decision whatsoever on the recommendations of the Council.

Certain recommendations of the Council of Education the implementation of which did not require the circulation of the Report to the various educational bodies, have already been put into effect. For example, last year a widely extended scheme of additional scholarships was introduced. Similarly, the Department is drawing up a guide to the Irish system of education.

The main bulk, however, of the Council's recommendations are such as would closely affect the day-to-day work of the schools and I cannot lose sight of the fact that those who may be called upon to implement these recommendations should be consulted on them. While the submissions of the various bodies concerned are in the possession of the Department, it is also to be recalled that although each educational body had submitted its own views, it was until now unaware of the extent to which the Council had seen fit to adopt the recommendations of the various bodies who submitted proposals.

30.

asked the Minister for Education whether, further to a reply of 10th May regarding the recommendations of the Council of Education, the various educational bodies to whom he intends circulating the Report of the Council will be asked to express their opinions by any particular fixed date; and, if so, what date.

The various bodies concerned will be asked to express their opinions within, at the latest, a period of six months of their receipt of the Report.
