Vol. 195 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois and Offaly Bog Roads.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance the date on which work was completed and passed in regard to general repairs to the worst sections of the bog road from Bloomhill county road north of Joseph Egan's house and north west to Daniel Gaffney's bog gate at Clonaderg, Bloomhill, Athlone, County Offaly; and if he will make enquiries as to the necessity for providing a further grant in order that more work may be carried out on this road.

12.

asked the Minister for Finance the date on which work was completed and passed on improvements to the worst sections of the bog road from the county road near James Larkin's house, Timolin, Banagher, County Offaly, east and north towards the turf bank of Mr. Kieran Butler; if he is satisfied that further repairs are necessary to this road; and if he will cause an inspection so that more money will be made available for this work.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give the date of the completion of the repair work to the accommodation and bog road from the main bog road at Mrs. Patrick Delaney's house, Derrycon, Mountrath, County Laois, west to Cullen's bog; and if he will make more money available for further repairs to this road without delay.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 to 13 together.

Particulars of these three works were given to all Deputies for the constituency on the 14th November, 1961.

The County Engineers have certified that repairs to these roads were satisfactorily completed on 23rd February, 1962, 2nd January, 1962, and 17th February, 1962, respectively, and the other parts of the questions do not, therefore, arise.

May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary if he will repeat the date on which he received the certificate of completion of the work in the case of Question No. 13?

The county engineer in question reported in regard to the road at Mrs. Patrick Delaney's house on 17th February, 1962.

May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary in relation to Question No. 11 if he will make inquiries into the necessity of providing further money for the works, since the bigger proportion of the money already provided was spent on wages and administration? In view of the limited amount of money that was available for materials, will the Parliamentary Secretary inquire into the present position of this road?

Mr. Donnellan

I am sure that this indicates the necessity of the Special Employment Schemes and Department doing its own work.

In regard to Question No. 12, I asked that an inquiry be made and surely it is not unreasonable to ask the Parliamentary Secretary in charge to request his Department to make a further investigation to ascertain if more money needs to be spent?

We shall look into the matter.

That is a little more reasonable.
