Vol. 195 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Whole-time Employment.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the number of persons in whole-time employment in the State for the year 1961.

It is not possible to ascertain the total number of persons in whole-time employment in the State at any period. Particulars of the number of persons in insurable employment are, however, available in the form of estimates based on the numbers of social insurance stamps sold or issued to employer depositors. Thus the average number of stamps sold per week in a year provides an estimate of the average number of persons in insurable employment throughout that year.

For the year ended 31 March, 1962, the provisional estimate of the weekly average number of persons in insurable employment was 486,100.

The figure based on the financial year is given since the calendar year figure may not fully take into account stamps purchased in respect of employment in the insurance year for males which ended on 31st December, 1961.
