asked the Minister for Local Government the number of appeals lodged by tenants in County Kildare and in each of the portions of Counties Meath and Westmeath in the Kildare constituency against the condition of their cottages on vesting, the number of such cottages inspected by engineers from his Department, and the number still to be inspected; and what action is taken to ensure that the Department's instructions on such appeals are complied with.

28.
Appeals under Section 18 of the Labourers Act, 1936, are not recorded in my Department in respect of parliamentary constituency areas, as they relate to the functional areas of the housing authorities concerned. In respect of County Kildare, 102 valid appeals were received in the year ended 1st April, 1962, of which 23 have been inspected and 79 are the subject of inquiries.
Responsibility for carrying out works which I determine to be necessary rests with the housing authority.
