Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Temporary and Permanent Civil Servants.

5.

asked the Minister for Finance the total number of civil servants, permanent and temporary, on 31st March, 1961 and 1962.

Returns extracted from the Civil Service Census, which relates to the first working day of each calendar year, indicate that the total number of civil servants, permanent and temporary, was 28,081 on 2nd January, 1961, and 28,910 on 1st January, 1962. I regret that statistics for the dates mentioned by the Deputy are not available.
