Vol. 195 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sanitary Facilities in Mayo School.

28.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange for a re-investigation of the water supply sources at Currane-Achill National School, County Mayo with a view to having water-flushed sanitary facilities provided at the school.

The feasibility of providing a water-flushed system of sanitation at Currane national school has already been investigated by the Commissioners of Public Works on two separate occasions. They found each time that a suitable supply of water was not available on or near the site. They report also that due to the nature of the terrain difficulties would be experienced in siting a septic tank. In the circumstances, I am satisfied that no useful purpose would be served by another investigation.

Is the Minister aware that a stream flows within 50 yards of the site?

My informants do not tell me there is a stream and I have no first hand knowledge of the area, but I shall investigate the matter.

It is like Glenbower bog road again.

Glenbower bog is driving them all mad.
