Vol. 195 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Visit of Russian Political Party Secretary.

30.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice whether it is a fact that a person known as Alex Romanov and described as First Secretary of the Russian Political Party was in this State for a period in September last; and, if so, (a) whether he had a visa or other authorisation, (b) the date and manner of his entry and departure, (c) his activities within the State, and (d) whether any protest has been made to any foreign Government in the matter.

An individual of the name mentioned, who is a member of the Russian Embassy in London, applied in June, 1961 for a visa for a short private visit for himself, his wife and eight year old daughter. The visit took place in September.

He was over here celebrating the centenary of the pawnbroking——

He might have visited Deputy Lynch for all I know.

I wonder will Dr. Singer be coming back?

How much did he leave in Mount Street before he went back?

You gave him permission to come and you should know.

There is no truth in the rumour that he was down inspecting Glenbower bog.

It would be hard to expect him to do it when those who should do not.
