Vol. 195 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Estates Limited.

11.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the inquiry into the charges of maladministration in the affairs of Irish Estates Limited has yet been completed.

12.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has yet completed his inquiry into the affairs of Irish Estates Limited; and, if so, what has been the result of his enquiry.

I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 11 and 12 together.

This inquiry is not being conducted by me but by independent inspectors appointed in accordance with Section 109 of the Companies (Consolidation) Act, 1908. They have not yet submitted a report to me.

Would the Minister say whether he proposes to make the result of the investigation public?

The Minister for Industry and Commerce has already answered that question.

He did not give a clear answer. Would the Minister for Transport and Power say whether any further consideration has been given to the question of making it public?

That is another question.

In view of the fact that over 90 per cent, of the shares are held on behalf of the public surely the report should be made public?

Could the Minister say how long more it will be before the report will be made available to somebody?

As soon as convenient.

That is not an answer. Will the Minister say whether it will be a month or a week or how long it will be?

I will not. The Minister for Industry and Commerce will see that the inspectors will take the normal amount of time.

What is the normal amount of time?

I am unable to say.
