Vol. 195 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abbey Theatre Subsidy.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance what amount, if any, of the Government subsidy paid to the Abbey Theatre will be expended on the amateur production in the Queen's Theatre during the week of 21st to 28th May during the annual holidays of the Abbey Company.

No part of the annual Grants-in-Aid provided for the National Theatre Society Limited will be expended on the amateur production referred to by the Deputy. In fact, the letting of the theatre for the week 21st to 28th May during the annual holidays of the Abbey actors provides a source of revenue for the National Theatre Society. Lettings of this kind have been made in previous years.

That is a bit of a boomerang.
