Vol. 195 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Vested Cottage Appeals.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) how many appeals against the condition of vested cottages in Meath he has received from tenants since the 1st January, 1962, (b) the number of cottages inspected, and (c) the number of tenants who have received from the Department a list of repairs needed.

The number of valid appeals under Section 18 of the Labourers Act, 1936, which were received in my Department from County Meath since 1st January, 1962, is 60; 21 of these have been inspected. Enquiries are proceeding in respect of the balance of 39 cottages. As I have not yet completed my examination of any of these cases, no tenant has been informed of the result of his appeal.

Would the Minister try to get his officials to send the inspector's decisions to the people concerned as soon as possible? I know it is a difficult task.

We are trying to have that done quickly.
