Vol. 195 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Pedestrian Crossings.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reasons for the delay in his sanctioning of grants to local authorities for the provision of pedestrian crossings; and if he will expedite the sanctioning of such grants, in particular for the city of Dublin.

There are no applications from local authorities for grants for the provision of uncontrolled pedestrian crossings before my Department at present. The last such application before my Department, to which, presumably, the Deputy's question refers, was in respect of the provision of 28 new crossings by the Dublin Corporation. Investigations into the need for those crossings necessitated the carying out of pedestrian counts at the various locations concerned. These investigations were carried out without any avoidable delay and the Corporation have been informed of my decision in the various cases.
