Vol. 195 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finglas (Dublin) Schools.

25.

asked the Minister for Education if he can now state at what date the new national school at Finglas East, Dublin, will be opened.

I understand that the work on the construction of the new school for girls at Finglas East will be completed in June. It is expected that the school will come into operation in September next.

26.

asked the Minister for Education if, further to previous replies on the subject of the new national school for Finglas West, Dublin, he will state what progress has been made, with regard to plans, contracts, etc., for the building; what the present position is with regard to the building of this school; and at what date he expects the building to be completed.

Suitable sites have been offered by the Reverend Manager for the erection of two separate schools for boys and for girls and infants in the Finglas North West area. It is understood that the manager has commissioned an architect to prepare the necessary sketch plans for submission to my Department.

It will necessarily take a considerable time before all the preliminary arrangements are completed and before my Department will be in a position to sanction the grants.

27.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to provide the long-promised vocational school in Finglas, Dublin.

The working drawings and specification for the proposed new vocational school at Finglas have been examined in my Department and are considered to be generally suitable from an educational point of view. They are at present being examined in the Office of Public Works as to their architectural suitability.

I am hopeful that their examination will be completed without delay and that I shall be able to authorise the preparation of a bill of quantities and the invitation of tenders for the building work very soon.
