Vol. 195 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Garda Stations.

32.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of Garda stations in County Meath which (a) are unfit and (b) need repair; and the approximate date on which replacement or repair is to be carried out.

The present Garda building programme provides for the erection in County Meath of new stations at seven centres where the existing premises are considered unfit for prolonged occupation. These are: Enfield, Slane, Ballivor, Dunboyne, Crossakiel, Georges Cross and Ashbourne. The new station at Enfield, which is in course of erection, should be completed by September next, and it is anticipated that Slane will have its new premises by the end of 1963. It is also expected that replacement of the existing accommodation will be effected at Ballivor and Dunboyne within the next two years but I am not in a position to indicate when the new stations at the remaining centres will be built as sites for these have yet to be acquired.

The Commissioners of Public Works have informed me that improvement schemes in hands, all of which will be completed in six months, relate to Nobber, Oldcastle, Duleek and Dunshaughlin. They have also informed me that proposals for improvements at Navan are under consideration.

Perhaps the Minister for Education might take note?

I agree it sounds very impressive.
