Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice the number of petitions against decisions of the Courts (a) received by him (b) refused by him and (c) granted in whole or in part in the year 1961.

1,245 petitions for mitigation of penalties were made to the Minister for Justice in the year ended 31st December, 1961: 928 petitions were refused and mitigation, mostly in part, was granted in the remaining cases.
