Vol. 196 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois-Offaly Estates.

27.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide amongst the local deserving applicants the lands of the Seymour Estate, Killygally, Belmont, County Offaly; and if it is hoped that these lands will be divided during the coming year.

Proceedings instituted by the Land Commission for acquisition of this 95 acre estate have reached the price stage. Until this aspect of the matter has been decided, it is not possible to indicate what the outcome of the proceedings will be.

28.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the Campion Estate at Spink, Abbeyleix, County Laois; and if a scheme for the division of this estate will be put into operation during the coming year.

It is not at present possible to indicate if or when this Estate, containing 224 acres in the townlands of Moat and Graigue, will be divided. Proceedings for acquisition of the lands are in progress and an Appeal on price is pending.

29.

asked the Minister for Lands what is the position in regard to the Scally Estate, Ballycommon, County Offaly; and if these lands will be divided shortly amongst the many local deserving applicants.

This estate, comprising 157 acres, was taken over last February and the Land Commission hope to be in a position to allot the lands next Spring. The claims of all eligible applicants will be fully considered by the Land Commissioners before allocation takes place.

Could the Minister say whether this farm has been earmarked for migrants or whether it is to be given to local applicants in the form of rearrangement of holdings?

I cannot say at the moment from the information before me.

Would the Minister bear it in mind when he is in the Land Commission and convey a request that in view of the congestion in the district among local smallholders, the Land Commission will give sympathetic and favourable consideration to applications from local land owners?

I will convey that to the Commission — the type of landless man I referred to at the conclusion of the debate last night——

I am not referring to that. This is not the time for the Minister to resurrect his disgraceful conduct in that regard.
