Vol. 196 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Mental Hospital Nursing Officers.

12.

asked the Minister for Health if he will take steps to declare a national salary scale for senior nursing officers attached to local authority mental hospitals throughout the State.

Save in relation to the Dublin Health Authority institutions, uniform scales of salary for each senior nursing post in district mental hospitals are in operation in each of the two categories related to resident patient population into which these hospitals are divided. The scales are those proposed to me by the relevant hospital authorities and approved by me. As I am satisfied that these rates are reasonable and uniform according to the category of the hospitals concerned, I see no reason for declaring a national scale.
