Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Planting of County Wicklow Lands.

70.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to commence planting on the land at Ballyknockan, Rathdangan, County Wicklow, which has been in the possession of his Department for nearly twenty years; and if he is aware that, if work is not commenced soon, there is danger of large-scale unemployment in the area.

The lands remaining unplanted at Ballyknockan are irregular-shaped plots which it would be uneconomic to develop and my Department has been negotiating a complicated series of re-arrangement schemes with adjoining landowners in order to secure a compact forest block. Progress has been slow but proceedings have now reached an advanced stage and it is hoped that with the co-operation of the landowners concerned the proceedings will soon be brought to a successful conclusion.
