Vol. 196 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Silting of River Dargle Fishing Pools.

72.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that following heavy flooding in 1958, deep pools in the lower reaches of the River Dargle in the immediate vicinity of Bray, County Wicklow, which formerly contained salmon and sea trout, became silted up with consequent deterioration of the fishing attractions in the area; and if his Department will take steps to have these pools cleared and to ensure that the fishing on the river is adequately protected.

I am aware of the situation and understand that the local angling association has arranged for excavation of pools affected by siltation. This work is in progress and a grant towards the cost will be made by the Dublin Board of Conservators and recouped from the Salmon Conservancy Fund. Protection of fishing on the river is a matter for the Board of Conservators.
