Vol. 196 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Schools.

78.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of each county the amount of money spent by the Government in building national schools and in renovating national schools in (a) 1960-61 and (b) 1961-62.

I am advised by the Commissioners of Public Works that the total expenditure on the building and reconstruction of national schools for the years 1960-61 and 1961-62 was £1,260,000 and £1,697,871 respectively.

As the records kept by the Commissioners are not on a county basis, I regret that it is not possible to state the amount expended in respect of each county.

79.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of each county the number of national schools needing extensive repair or reconstruction.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report.
