Vol. 196 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Refitting of Yacht.

86.

asked the Minister for Defence the total sum spent on the acquisition of, and on the refitting of, the Asgard, the total number of hours during which the yacht has been in use as a training vessel, the full complement needed to man it, and the personnel capable of being trained at any one time.

As regards the sum spent on the acquisition of and on the refitting of the Asgard, I would refer the Deputy to the information given by me in the House on the 10th April last in reply to a question of Deputy Sir Anthony C. Esmonde. The Asgard has been in use as a training vessel for An Slua Muirí for a total of approximately 726 hours. The full complement needed to man the yacht is seven but it can be handled by three in Dublin Bay. When the vessel is under way, 12 can be trained aboard; when it is at anchor in port, 25 can receive instruction.
