Vol. 196 No. 9

Written Answers. - Deduction from Officer's Pay.

99.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state in detail the procedure to be followed where a deduction falls to be made from the pay of an officer under the provisions of DFR S.3., Amendment No. 136, paragraph 36 (e) (ii).

The procedure is administrative. The officer may agree to the deduction being made from his pay or, if he does not, the Minister may direct that the deduction be made. Before the Minister directs that a deduction be made, the officer is given the opportunity of showing cause why that course should not be adopted, and any representations which he may make are fully considered.

I may add, for the Deputy's convenience, that the provision to which he refers is now contained in subparagraph (1) (f) (ii) of paragraph 36 of Defence Force Regulation S.3.
