Vol. 196 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensioners' Fuel Allowance.

35.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will agree to abolish the restriction of issuing the fuel allowance to old age pensioners for a part of the year only.

The Cheap Fuel Scheme, which applies to old age pensioners and other classes in certain urban areas, is brought into operation annually in respect of the winter period. I do not propose to extend the period during which it operates.

Could the Minister make arrangements to curtail the winter?

Unfortunately, no. I would do that if I could.
