Vol. 196 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of River Suir.

5.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Finance on what basis the priority position for arterial drainage is arrived at; and if he will reconsider the unsatisfactory position of the River Suir in that respect, having a special regard to the quantity and particularly the productive quality of the land affected by flooding.

The priority lists were prepared on the basis of the best information available at the time as to the need for drainage works in each catchment area having regard to the nature and extent of the land subject to flooding and the probable works required.

The question of altering the position of the Suir in the list does not arise as it has already been reached. The engineering survey of the catchment was commenced in 1960 and is proceeding.

Question No. 6 postponed.
