asked the Minister for Health (i) the number of patients X-rayed in Castlebar hospital during the past four years, (ii) the number of people from North Mayo X-rayed for the past four years, and (iii) the cost of ambulance services for North Mayo for the past four years; and if he will indicate the number of X-ray units in each county (a) fixed, i.e., fluoroscopic and radiographic, and (b) mobile or portable.

As the reply to the question contains a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.
The information requested is as follows:— (i) The number of patients X-rayed in Castlebar County Hospital during the period 1st January, 1958 to 31st December, 1961 was 38,214. (ii) The number of persons from North Mayo who were X-rayed at the County Hospital during the same period was 7,032. Figures are not available to indicate the number of persons from the area who were X-rayed in extern hospitals. (iii) The cost of ambulance services for North Mayo for the period from 1st April, 1958 to 31st March, 1962 is estimated at £12,500.
For purposes of compiling the information sought, North Mayo has been regarded as the area included in the dispensary districts of Ballina, Ballycastle, Bangor, Belmullet, Crossmolina, Killala, Knocknalower, and small sections of Castlebar and Foxford.
The following table gives the number of X-ray units in each county. (Units in private hospitals and in doctors' consulting rooms about which information is not available are not included).
