Vol. 196 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - District Court Depositions.

35.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if steps will be taken in the near future to have evidence on deposition in district courts recorded on tape recorders or by means of other modern devices instead of in longhand as at present.

The present procedures for the preliminary investigation of indictable offences were referred by my Department to the Committee on Court Practice and Procedure on 25th May last for examination. I shall, of course, await the recommendations of the Committee before deciding on what might be done in this respect.
