Vol. 197 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City School.

132.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the need for a new national school in the Bishopstown-Curraheen area of the suburbs of Cork city in view of the extensive housing developments there; and if any steps have been taken with a view to providing such an amenity.

The question of providing national school accommodation to cater for the needs of the new housing area at Bishopstown-Curraheen has been investigated by my Department. It is proposed to erect a new school for boys on a site which the Reverend Manager has offered for the purpose. The preliminary arrangements, including the carrying out of a survey of the site, are now in train. If the site proves suitable the necessary steps in connection with the sanctioning of a grant for the new building will be expedited as far as possible.
