Vol. 197 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Solicitors Operation of Five-Day Week.

149.

asked the Minister for Justice whether in view of the fact that many solicitors in Dublin are now only operating a five-day week he will arrange with the rules committees to provide that Saturday will not be counted as a day of service or for expiration of time, where less than one week is provided for such latter purpose.

As the Deputy is aware, the various Court Rules Committees are empowered to make Rules dealing with this matter. The Incorporated Law Society is represented on the Rules Committees, and I know of no reason why the representatives should not raise the question direct with the Committees.

If my concurrence to the making of appropriate Rules is sought by the Rules Committees, I shall give the matter sympathetic consideration.

Would the Minister not ask the Committees to consider it?

I am not sure that it would be appropriate for me to do so.
