Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Building.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the Dublin Corporation building at Bridgefoot Street is proceeding according to schedule; if it will be completed at the time originally estimated and for the price originally tendered; and, if the answer to any part of this question is in the negative, whether he will make a full statement explaining the cause of the trouble.

The rate of progress on a local authority housing scheme and the assessment of prices variations under the terms of the contract are matters between the housing authority and the contractor. I understand that progress with the contract referred to by the Deputy has been the subject of review by Dublin Corporation and that present progress indicates that it is not likely to be completed within the specified time. This, however, is not a matter on which it would be proper for me to comment at this stage. The conditions of contract set out the manner in which the question of delay in completion of the contract is to be dealt with and includes provision for allowing extensions of time in specified circumstances. I also understand it is not expected that there will be any substantial prices variations.
