Vol. 197 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - River Lee Pollution.

72.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that legislation under the Public Health Act, 1890 and the Rivers Pollution Act, 1876 is inadequate to enable Cork Corporation to prevent extensive pollution of both channels of the River Lee in Cork City; and if he will consider the enactment of legislation of a more satisfactory nature.

The question of pollution of the River Lee is being examined by the Corporation in conjunction with the preparation of plans for the Cork Main Drainage Scheme. The question of water pollution generally is being reviewed by an interdepartmental committee and revised legislation will be considered, if and when the need for it becomes apparent.
