Vol. 197 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lighting of Dublin Street.

79.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, having regard to the fact that Molesworth Street which leads directly to Leinster House is very inadequately illuminated at night, he will urge the Dublin Corporation to substantially improve the standard of public lighting in that street; and if he will have a grant made to assist the Corporation towards meeting the cost of such improvement.

Capital expenditure by the Dublin Corporation on approved schemes to improve the public lighting of city streets and roads normally qualifies for 50 per cent. grant from the Road Fund. A decision on whether or not to include Molesworth Street in their programme of public lighting improvements rests with the Corporation. I do not propose to interfere with the exercise of their discretion in the matter.
