Vol. 197 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Replanting of County Roscommon Lands.

97.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the owner of lands at Croghan, Boyle, County Roscommon, known as the Demesne, has complied fully with his replanting obligations.

The present owner, who acquired this estate about two years ago, assumed responsibility for a balance of replanting outstanding from the previous ownership. He has made very substantial progress in replanting and my Department expects that the programme planned for the current planting season will more than fulfil any obligation outstanding.

While I have answered the Deputy's question which is, as far as I can trace, the first of its kind to be asked in the House, I feel that, as a general principle, it is undesirable that the discharge of replanting obligations by particular landowners should be the subject of discussion in the House.

That is a matter of opinion.

That is my opinion and I am putting it on record.
