Vol. 197 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Resumption in Westmeath.

105.

asked the Minister for Lands the total acreage of land acquired and resumed in County Westmeath from 1st April, 1923 to 1st April, 1962, the number of farms created, the number of holdings enlarged and the amount of money paid for said land.

Total area finally acquired and resumed in County Westmeath during the period referred to was 51,670 acres, the purchase price of which was £887,343. The precise details requested in the remaining parts of the Question are not readily available but perhaps it would meet the Deputy's requirements to say that, in the period 1923-62, an aggregate area of 48,103 acres was allotted amongst 2,934 allottees in County Westmeath and that in the period from 1st April, 1949, to 31st March last, 105 holdings were alloted to migrants and 252 holdings enlarged in the county.
