Vol. 197 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon Bogs.

106.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress is being made with the sub-division of bogs on the Lloyd Estate in the townland of Derrylow, Croghan, Boyle, County Roscommon; if objections to the drainage of these bogs have been withdrawn; if compensation has been offered to, and accepted by, the objector; and if he will indicate if and when work will be resumed.

Development of this bog—the bulk of which was allotted last Spring—had to be suspended following an objection by an adjacent landowner on the grounds that drainage being carried out by the Land Commission would aggravate the danger of flooding on his holding. This objection has not been withdrawn and the Land Commission are at present endeavouring to find an alternative means of draining the bog in such a way as to eliminate the cause for complaint. Work will be resumed as soon as the difficulty has been resolved. The question of compensation does not arise.
