Vol. 197 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of Avoca Mines.

30.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total moneys advanced by way of grant and loan for the development of the Avoca Mines, County Wicklow since the project was initiated.

The amount of State assistance granted to date in connection with the Avoca copper mines is £2,346,473.

Could the Minister state what quantity of money was provided by the Canadian interest in the St. Patrick's Copper Mines over the same period as the State provided money?

I cannot give the exact figure. It was not as much as the State provision. It was more than £2,000,000.

Would the Minister state whether the sum he mentioned includes the advances, in respect of which the State is the guarantor, made by the insurance companies to the St. Patrick's Copper Mines?

This is an inclusive sum.

This is a complete cover for insurance companies?

Does the figure go all the time back?

No. This refers to the moneys invested since the development.
