Vol. 197 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factory Accidents.

32.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the rate per thousand of notifiable factory accidents in (a) 1960 and (b) 1961.

Figures available in my Department relating to the number of persons employed in premises to which the Factories Act, 1955 applies are based on returns made by Factory Inspectors of the numbers employed at the time of inspection and consequently these figures cannot be regarded as a wholly satisfactory basis on which to calculate the accident rate of factories.

However, on the basis of such figures the accident rate per 1,000 employed on factory work was 13.6 in 1960 and 15.8 in 1961.
