Vol. 197 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Registration of Births.

16.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the fact that in Dublin city persons wishing to register the birth of a child have frequently to wait for hours in queues with persons seeking medical attention from a dispensary doctor, he will introduce legislation to enable births to be registered without much pointless waste of time.

I am not aware that persons have frequently to wait for hours to register births in the Registrar's offices in Dublin city.

The revision of the law relating to the registration of births and deaths is at present under consideration and possible improvements in the present method of registration in Dublin city will be examined. Provisions for such improvements as may be found to be necessary will be incorporated in any proposals for fresh legislation which it may be decided to promulgate in order to bring the existing registration code up to date.
