Vol. 197 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Phoenix Park Grazing Rights.

37.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance the annual income from grazing rights in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, the steps taken by the Office of Public Works to improve the pasture in that park, and the cost of such steps in each of the past ten years.

The income from grazing in the Phoenix Park varies from year to year. It is approximately £2,000 a year.

The Park is maintained primarily as a place of recreation for the general public and it has not been the practice to treat the pasturage. However, in 1961 and 1962 experiments in the application of ground limestone to selected areas of 30 and 20 acres respectively were carried out at a total cost of £90 approximately. The results will be considered.
