Vol. 198 No. 5

Private Members' Business. - Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Bill, 1962: Order for Second Reading Discharged.

I move:

That the Order for the Second Reading of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Bill, 1962, be discharged and that the Second Reading be ordered for Thursday, 6th December, 1962.

I want to ask the Dáil to discharge the order for Second Reading made earlier and to fix the Second Reading for tomorrow.

That is, having regard to the new arrangements?

The reason for this change is, as Deputy Sweetman pointed out, that we have changed the Order of Business. It was originally intended that we would take the Estimate for the Department of Transport and Power and dispose of it in order to convenience our colleagues in the Labour Party who are paying a tribute to Deputy Everett. That was put forward to Tuesday. That makes it impossible to have this legislation now. This is taking the place of the Estimate for the Department of Transport and Power.

The Deputy is right. I should have explained that it was owing to a complete change in the business.

Question put and agreed to.
