Vol. 198 No. 7

Committee on Finance. - Military Service Pensions (Increase) Bill, 1962—Second Stage.

I move that the Bill be now read a Second Time. The purpose of this Bill is to provide statutory authority for the 20 per cent. increase in military service pensions payable under the Military Service Pensions Acts, 1924 to 1960. The increased pensions are being paid since 1st August, 1962 on foot of a Supplementary Estimate for pensions approved by this House on 18th July, 1962. On current expenditure, the estimated cost of the increases for a full year is £116,000.

There is not much I have to say on this Bill, except again to welcome the increases in respect of those who will get them. I should think that Deputy Sherwin's comments on the previous Bill would be more appropriate on this one.

I have nothing further to say on this matter.

Question put and agreed to.
