asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state, in the case of old age (non-contributory) pensions, to whom the pensions are payable when the recipients are (a) patients in county homes and (b) patients in mental hospitals.

The pensions of patients in county homes are payable to the pensioners or their duly authorised agents. The pensions of patients detained in mental hospitals are payable to the hospital authorities who may allow a patient up to 10/- a week if he is considered capable of making proper use of the money.
