Vol. 199 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Spinning Mills.

25.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the Sligo Spinning Company are closing and dismantling their mills in Sligo; and if he has any statement to make regarding the situation.

I am aware of the position in regard to the Sligo Spinning Mill. The situation is being examined with a view to finding a solution which will secure the maintenance or restoration of the employment of the workers affected by the closing down of the mill following the recent fire. In the consideration of the measures open to deal with the situation, regard is being had to the availability of grant aid in the event that it should be found necessary, or possible, to get some other enterprise started at the factory. I have been assured by representatives of the Company that, if it is not found practicable to resume spinning operations at Sligo, they will make available all possible facilities to enable any other interested group to start an industry there.
