Vol. 199 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of County Tipperary River.

19.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, further to a statement of 15th November 1961 on the carrying out of an intermediate river scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, on the Carrigahorig River, Nenagh, County Tipperary, it is intended to carry out such a scheme; when this river was last inspected by his Department; when it was last cleaned; whether he has received any recent reports on its condition; and what is the present condition with regard to the carrying out of drainage works on this river.

This river was last inspected by officers of the Office of Public Works in September, 1962 to obtain further information in connection with the preparation of a scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act 1945. I have no information as to when it was last cleaned. The Commissioners of Public Works have no responsibility for the condition of this river as yet but it is known from the inspection reports that drainage works are desirable and that they would be complex and difficult. The preparation and design of a scheme are now well advanced. It is hoped that a scheme can be placed on exhibition in the district later this year with a view to the commencement of works.
