Vol. 200 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Council of Europe Resettlement Fund.

10.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what is the attitude of the Government with regard to Recommendation No. 348 on the association of the Resettlement Fund of the Council of Europe with the work of assistance to newly-developed European countries, which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 17th January 1963; and what action the Government have taken, or contemplate taking, on it.

When Recommendation 348 was discussed in the Committee of Ministers, the delegations representing non-members of the Resettlement Fund (including Ireland) indicated that they did not propose to join. The question of extending the Resettlement Fund's activities to include assistance to European countries in process of development is one for decision by the members of the Fund.

The decision of the Committee of Ministers will be communicated to the Assembly in due course.
