Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labelling of Imported Honey.

10.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will take steps to ensure that all imported honey, whether jarred in Ireland or not, is clearly labelled as imported, with a view to avoiding confusion in the mind of the consumer between honey which is produced in Ireland and honey which is merely jarred in Ireland.

I have recently asked the principal importers of honey to consider indicating on all containers of foreign honey that the contents are in fact imported or contain a proportion of imported honey. The importers have indicated that they are prepared to meet this request when their existing stocks of labels are exhausted.
