Vol. 201 No. 6

Dáil Statistical Returns 1959-62: Motion.

I move:

That Returns with reference to each of the years 1959 to 1962 be laid before the Dáil in respect of:—

(1) Sittings, etc.,

(2) Public Bills,

(3) Private Bills,

(4) Questions to Members of the Government,

(5) Committees,

(6) Closure of Debate.

These are just formal statistics?

It is just the normal statistical information.

I do not know who compiled this, but was the inclusion of the number of divisions in the House during the period contemplated or considered? We have all sorts of information here but that seems to have been left out.

We have followed the same procedure as in past years.

I have never seen it before.

These returns appear to provide statistical material as to the number of sittings, the number of Bills, the number of Committees established and so forth. I take it, Sir, that these figures were compiled by your staff, by the staff of the Oireachtas. Have you considered it would be desirable to record the number of divisions taken in Dáil Éireann?

These are published.

How published?

Lists of divisions are published separately.

I would have thought they would be published in connection with this motion.

These lists have been published since 1924.

Is a list of divisions published in some other form?

They are published annually.

And they are to be found, together with this statistical material, in the Library, if Deputies want them?

Yes, they are.

Question put and agreed to.
