Vol. 201 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) Telephone Service.

32.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when he expects to be in a position to provide a telephone service to the people in Belgard, Clondalkin, County Dublin.

Clearance of the four waiting applications in the area in question is dependent on an extension of the underground cabling in the district. It is hoped to undertake this work in about six months' time and the telephones will be installed as soon as possible afterwards.

Is the Minister aware that some of these people have been waiting for about two years?

I am aware that two have been waiting since 1961 and two since 1962, but it is unlikely that the work on the new cable can be completed for another year. Another method is being adopted to shorten that period and it is intended to divert some of the existing circuits to bring these in.
