Vol. 201 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Breaches of Shannon Embankment.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the serious situation in which the farmers of Ballydoole and Mellon, Pallaskenry, County Limerick find themselves because of the breaches of the Shannon embankment in that area; and if he has any proposals for the alleviation of their plight.

These embankments are being considered with others on the Shannon estuary by the Office of Public Works with a view to a scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.

The breaches caused by the severe storms in 1961 have been repaired by the Limerick County Council out of moneys provided by the Land Commission. Strengthening and further repair works are being carried out by the Land Commission pending the scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.

Question No. 8 postponed.
