Vol. 203 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Crossakiel (Meath) Lands.

73.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have yet decided to whom the remaining farm on the Beggan Estate, Diamer, Crossakiel, County Meath is to be allocated.

Of an original area of 169 acres on this estate, 123 acres were allotted last spring. A final decision has not yet been reached regarding the allocation of the balance of the estate.

Would the Minister not agree it seems ridiculous to hold back what amounts to one fairly decent farm in an estate like this? Would the Land Commission not make some attempt to decide to whom they will give it or is it being used simply to placate those in the area who are under the impression they still have favour with the powers that be?

It is no such thing. I told the Deputy they have not reached a final decision on the matter. They expect to do so by next spring. That is all I can say.
